On September 10th, the Active 20-30 Club of Sacramento drew nearly 1,000 partiers to their HAVANA NIGHTS fundraiser for the kids. Held at the Bailer Building at Sutter's Landing (the old skate park near the river downtown), the event featured an array of activites ranging from a giant Janga game to full contact "stick fights." But for many, it was Sublime Remembered they came to see and hear. With a very uncanny resemblance in vocals to Brads (RIP), Wes Register, the front man, hit every note about as perfectly as anyone could imagine. The party ended around 12:30 A.M. and the small group we arrived with headed back to a friend's home down the street where we continued to revel on into the morning. If you missed this party, then you're outta luck for a while. The Active 20-30 Club of Sacramento throws several large fundraiser parties every year, and while Octoberfest has been a success in the past, Havana Nights probably took it's place this year.
The Momo Lounge
is easily one of the nicest clubs in town and a Sacvibe favorite for years. Located behind Harlows on 27th and J, its rear alley entrance gives it a very underground vibe. But step inside and you're transported to a place you'd never imagine would be off an alley.
Proprietor Peter Torza, son Vic and Brother Dany Torza, keep this gem running smoothly along with the professoinals in charge of security. Bottle service is available and the music is always top notch leaning heavily toward house. Darius Babazadeh (Dbaba) performs regularly on sax along with the DJs and conga players. While many night clubs have dancers working the stage, the only dancers working the floors at the Momo are the people who came to party. Definately a club for the mature minded and sophisticated. You can't over dress for this club. The ladies always look great, but some of the guys could use a little help. Short sleeves and tee-shirts may be okay by the rules there, but we think they look a little out of place at a club where a the women are easily outdressing the fellahs.
