Local "California Kid" Faber Says He's Not Worried
Number One WEC Featherweight Champ Defends Title June 1 at ARCO Arena: tix
Most fighters didn't go to college let alone become NCAA champs; Urija Faber is not most fighters. Graduating from UC Davis where he was an NCAA national championship wrestler, Faber went on to open Ultimate Fitness in downtown Sacramento; a gym dedicated to teaching and training fight techniques including boxing, Jiu Jistsu and Mixed Martial Arts. He's also become the number one fighter in his division and his only loss came against a man who is now fighting for the UFC.
Some say he's built a name by beating up weak-sauce fighters, others say he could even handle UFC's George St Peirre, but let's not get silly. There's a 25 lb. weight differential between the two, but Urija is a bad ass. He's bad enough to have only one loss to a fighter who since joined the ranks of the UFC.
Faber will have his hands full with James Pulver (Orange County) who is dropping weight to come down to Faber's class and squashes any talk about Faber only fighting wussies. Pulver's "dirty boxing" style will be met head on by Faber's all-around jack-you-up style solid skills and quickness. The two will be fighting for the World Featherweight Championship in the WEC and the winner will essentially go on to become the undisputed king in class. More info and tix...
